I have over 20 years post-graduate experience in the counselling field. As my personal center in my work, I specialize in emotional regulation training. The single-most requested type of support clients seek in therapy in my experience is understanding one’s own feelings and having a relationship with them where they can feel like they have some control over what is happening inside their bodies. I am a compassionate, intuitive and empathic therapist who acknowledges that life and relationships are complex, and understands that healing is a non-linear process. Using my values as my compass, the most sacred held space in our relationship is your personal right to consent and autonomy. I believe that you are the expert of your own life.

Specialties:

I have worked for over 20 years in various counselling spaces, with specialties in abuse, complex trauma, Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), women’s+ & SOGI specific matters, substance misuse, emotional regulation and learning about feelings management. I am ethically centered in and use the lens of an intersectional-feminist theoretical perspective of oppression in society.

Theoretic Approach:

I use a client-centered holistic and eclectic approach that is tailored to clients of all genders, largely trauma-informed narrative practice. It is a trauma-informed integrative lens tailored to the individual guided by the values of collaboration, inclusivity, anti-oppression. I focus on attunement to centering the nervous system and our inner world, and use of somatic body-based tools in real-time. I draw upon tools from CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Narrative, EFT, MI, LI, somatic and experiential methodologies. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion As a counsellor of European settler ancestry, I am committed to the ongoing work of decolonizing in my personal and professional practice. I use feminist intersectional informed approaches. I work with women across the gender spectrum and SOGI population. My services are anti-oppression (anti-racism, sexism, ableism, ageism, elitism, other-isms), sex-positive and rainbow-friendly. I aim for the counselling experience to feel culturally responsive to be able to gently navigate cultural and systemic trauma.

Background Qualifications:

I have over 20 years counselling experience. With degrees in sociology, psychology, gender studies, and counselling, I aim for understanding our humanness from a variety of angles. I have maintained a variety of professional development trainings and kept in good standing with CCPA for my certification as CCC, and more recently RCC certification. I am an approved Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) counsellor.

My Counselling Environment:

I am an ‘outside-the-box’ type. I’m quirky, with a lot of wisdom and a relaxed and casual environment. I want people to feel like they are coming into a homey space where they feel they can be themselves, sit and have a tea and kick their feet up. Like a visit to an old friend, share some laughs, stories, and maybe a few tears.
